Here’s a sweet and thoughtful video our church put together for Keri and I for Pastor Appreciation Month. All I can say in return is “Thanks for being such a fun, grace-filled, caring and committed church family to lead.”
I hear other pastors complain about the shenanigans they have to put up with — petty complaints, internal division, relational conflicts, stagnant attenders going through the motions, disgruntled elders, stubborn old church ladies, etc. — and I always walk away thinking, “Wow, I’m blessed to shepherd this particular flock!”
I am aware of a lot of churches and personally know dozens of pastors, and I honestly can’t find another church where such a high percentage of attenders are actively pursuing spiritual growth by investing in the vision and buying in to the process. Most importantly, we are are truly a “family” who knows and cares for one another deeply and sacrificially. We wade into one another’s messes and embrace each other in good times and bad. We are learning how to “be patient, bearing with one another in love” (Eph. 4:1-3).
Keri and I could have never guessed we would be this blessed when we set out to start this new church five years ago. People sometimes ask, “Is it the church you set out to plant?” The answer is clearly, “No, this is not the church I had in mind. But it looks exactly like the kind of church Jesus loves to form!”
Here’s two other words of affirmation to Keri and me — a poem and a note:
The Word of God is alive and well.
I love the way you show how in my heart it can dwell.
Thanks for being a great example of this Word.
I enjoy how you display it and how its always heard.
Your love for each other and how you lead is an inspiration.
You allow the Spirit in and may He bless your vocation!
Dear Jeremy & Keri:
If someone told me 2 years ago that I would be a part of a new, amazing church family today, I would never believe them. Not only have I found an incredible community, but I have grown deeply in my prayer life and have fallen in love with God’s Word. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you two. It is not a coincidence that I stumbled upon MainStreet during one of the most trying times of my life. I am on a closer journey with Christ thanks to your guidance!
