I absolutely LOVE turning our cute little “house on the hill” into a warm, cozy winter abode — our own little winter wonderland. Keri put all of my fire-making attempts to shame this past week with the best fire we’ve ever had in our home. It burned and crackled for hours without needing to tend to it.
The most dramatic Christmas decision we made is to remove our television from the living room to free up space for our tree. We’re liking the new arrangement, and enjoying some quieter times of reading and music without the constant temptation to passively “zone out” in TV watching mode.
I would encourage all of you to consider this for the season of advent — or longer! Let us creatively and intentionally heed the carol’s plea: “Let every heart prepare Him room.” Let’s us make sure we don’t end up playing the part of the inn keeper in the Christmas pageants who had no place for Jesus when he arrived. Let us make sure all the busyness of Christmas — the shopping, party planning, baking, traveling — doesn’t push Jesus out into the stable of our lives. Another good article on this theme is Boring the Hell Out of ‘Em at Christmas.
This Christmas as we join Bing Crosby in singing “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”, let us pause to marvel at the wondrous fact that were Jesus to sing this song, he would have our hearts in mind as the place he desires to come and dwell this Christmas!
Happy Advent friends!
